This Saturday at NHC MUSIC, we will be hosting our first Heat The Homeless charity event at our music shop in the Hidden Lane, Finnieston, an event that started off as a collaborative idea between Colin Bell (Fallen Arches) and Jamie (NHC). It literally took us a beer or two, and some frank discussion on the homeless crisis that seems to be engulfing our much loved city and beyond, and within a couple of hours we came to the conclusion that we had had enough of just chatting, and enough of just writing about the problems the homeless of Glasgow were facing. It was time for some action of our own, and even if we only helped a few people, it would still be better than inaction.
This event is the first step of that discussion taking place, there will be more in 2018!
With the help of some of our fantastic registered acts, including Jimbo Mackellar, KC Johnston, Fallen Arches himself, The Big Nowhere, Tommy Concrete, Morning Music, Andrea, and some super special guests, we will be having our own instore charity shindig from 4pm until late, and the price of entry will be some warm clothing for us to hand over to the people of Glasgow who desperately need it this winter. So you will get a dose of fantastic live music for something as simple as a pair of thick socks, some toiletries, or even a jumper. The things you bring will mean so much to someone who needs it most, so please do donate what you can. The event is also BYOB and suitable for all ages, but if you want a space for the full event you better come early, as the shop only holds about 25-30 folk at a time! (Although we are sure there will be lots of people coming and going throughout the day and night so hopefully we can squeeze in a few more folk throughout the day)
NHC will be bringing bags of items collected from their own team too, and also from bands who couldn't make the event itself, great acts such as the folks at The Trongate Rum Riots, Geek Maggot Bingo and more, will be throwing in piles of new t-shirts to the kitty. When we say 'piles' we really do mean it, we already have two large bin bags full of brand new T-Shirts to get handed out, as well as four other bin bags of warm jumpers, socks, sleeping bags and more, and that's before the event takes place! To say we are ecstatic with the response is an understatement, The city has done itself proud. The clothing you donate will be handed out over the next two weeks by amazing charity See The Invisibles on the streets of Glasgow, so you know it's going directly into the hands of those who need it.
If you are not after a beer at the gig then there is the Hidden Lane Tearoom to check out, if you fancy some delicious cakes and snacks between bands instead, or why not try some coffee and snacks with a healthier twist from our new next door neighbours at The Lean Factory. In fact the lane has loads of wee places for you to explore while you are down, so if you are hanging about for the full event then please do have a wander and see what the lane itself has to offer, you might just find some locally sourced Christmas presents while you are visiting.
Check out the event page here and please do pop down if you can and help us fill as many bags as we can, we have a lot of work still to be done, and miles to go before we sleep!
